Glen Ewen sits on the Canadian Pacific Railway just south of Highway 18, in the Rural Municipality of Enniskillen, with Carnduff and Oxbow nearby. The community was founded on March 24, 1905, by a rail worker named Thomas Ewen, who also became its first postmaster. The village's name comes from him.
The article gives March 24, 1904 as the date Glen Ewen incorporated as a village. In 1959 the Glen Ewen Eagles were one of the four founding teams of the men's senior Big 6 Hockey League, though they never won a championship.
The school closed in November 1989 and now serves as the Glen Ewen Communiplex. The village has a policy of tearing down dwellings once they are vacated, and with the current oilfield boom in the area, incoming workers have found housing in short supply. In 2011 the new Glen Ewen Hotel opened, replacing the old hotel that burned down in 2007.
